China Expat Family Health Insurance
Bringing your family to China — or growing one here — changes what you need from health insurance. One plan covering you, your spouse and your children means one renewal, one insurer, and no gaps when it matters. We've been arranging family cover for expats in China since 2004, free of charge — the insurer's price is the same whether you use us or go direct.
What does family health insurance in China include?
- Everyone on one policy — you, your spouse and up to five children, with a single renewal date
- Inpatient cover for the whole family — hospitalisation, surgery, intensive care and cancer treatment with a private room, settled by direct billing
- Outpatient options — paediatrician and GP visits, prescriptions, vaccinations and health checks on comprehensive plans
- Medical evacuation and repatriation included on recommended plans
- Worldwide cover excluding the USA, portable if your family relocates
Do families get discounts on China health insurance?
Yes — and they're significant. Couples can save up to 40% against two separate adult policies with some insurers, and several of the plans we compare apply family discounts once three or more members join. Children's rates are lower than adults' on most plans. This is exactly the sort of thing a broker checks across all insurers for you — the cheapest structure isn't always obvious.
How much does family health insurance in China cost?
As a guide from our current rates, a family of four (parents late-30s, two young children) ranges from around ¥28,000 per year for strong inpatient-only cover up to around ¥163,000 per year for a top-tier plan with full outpatient benefits at the premium international hospitals. Most families land somewhere in between, balancing hospital access against budget.

What about maternity cover?
If you're planning a baby in China — or already expecting — maternity needs special attention: routine maternity benefits carry waiting periods, but complications cover is available even after falling pregnant.
